Magnitude 5.4 Earthquake Strikes Eastern Taiwan

A 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Taiwan at 10:27 PM on Sunday (June 23), according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

As of publication, no injuries or damage have been reported. Taiwan uses an intensity scale from 1 to 7 to measure how strongly an earthquake is felt at a specific location.

The earthquake's intensity was recorded as 4 in Hualien and Nantou. An intensity level of 3 was observed in Yilan, Taitung, Taichung, Yunlin, and Chiayi.

Intensity level 2 was reported in Miaoli, Changhua, Hsinchu, Chiayi, Tainan, and New Taipei City. Intensity level 1 was measured in Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, Taipei, Hsinchu County, Pingtung, and Penghu.

The CWA stated that the epicenter was located 18.3 kilometers south of Hualien City Hall, with a focal depth of 17 kilometers.
