The National Immigration Agency (NIA) is expediting the installation of new e-Gates at Taoyuan International Airport to streamline passenger flow, as reported on Tuesday (June 4).

The first phase, comprising 19 new e-Gates, has been completed, and the second phase commenced on Monday (June 3). An additional 24 e-Gates are set to be operational by August 1.

According to the NIA, since the introduction of the first e-Gates at Taiwan's airports and ports in 2011, over 100 million travelers have utilized them. The project to replace the old e-Gates began last year.

The fourth-generation e-Gates feature more functionalities and support multiple languages. At Taoyuan International Airport, the replacement of the older gates will be completed this year, while other airports and ports will undergo upgrades by 2025.

The NIA highlighted that even before the new e-Gates, Taoyuan had been recognized by Skytrax as the fifth-best airport in the world for its passport control system. The new system represents a significant enhancement in convenience for travelers while maintaining high-security standards.
