Taiwan could face between two and four tropical storms in the latter half of this year, which is at or below the normal level, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced on Tuesday (June 25).

In the first half of 2024, only two tropical storms have been recorded, less than half of the average of 4.27 for the same period. Neither storm directly affected Taiwan.

Starting next month, the CWA will begin providing forecasts three to five days in advance regarding the likelihood and timing of Force 7 winds. According to the CWA, these new predictions will aid residents and disaster prevention teams in taking appropriate precautionary measures.

The weather agency noted that rainfall has been below average in recent months. From May to June 23, total rainfall was 251.6 mm, significantly lower than the average of 409 mm.

Despite experiencing eight "plum rains" over the past two months, these events were brief, contributing to the fifth driest period since 1950.
